About the Cleanse

Would you like to learn how to bring yourself back into balance and empower yourself on your own healing journey? Do you wake up feeling tired, with little energy or at times do you have feelings of depression or anxiety? Are you suffering from digestive and gut issues, trouble sleeping, abdominal pain or gas, constipation, or loose stools?

Your body knows and you know intuitively when you’re out of balance. Ayurveda is an ancient system of healing developed over 5000 years ago, which is intrinsically based on the concept of balance. It has developed different lifestyle tips and practices that allow you to live in harmony with nature, the seasons and the natural rhythms and cycles of your body. It’s no coincidence for example that when you wake up, serotonin, the happy and awake hormone, is released when sunlight enters your eye or that melatonin, your sleep hormone is released when it gets dark.

It’s also no coincidence that over 80% of your serotonin is produced in your gut and the health of your microbiome (or the microorganisms living in your gut) and the same microorganisms that help produce serotonin is fundamental to the balance of your digestive health, your mental health, mood and emotions.

That’s why with Gaia Ayurveda, this seasonal spring cleanse will help bring you back into balance.

Who is this Balance Gut-Mind Reset Cleanse for?

This cleanse is for anyone who feels that they are intuitively imbalanced in the mind or body. You can also consult the list below for common signs and symptoms of imbalance.

If you are not digesting and eliminating properly (too much or too little) or if your mood and energy levels are affected, a reset and balancing cleanse can help bring you back to your centre and re-charge your batteries. If you have done cleanses before or if you are new to cleanses this is perfect for you!

Cleansing is an ancient practice that has been performed by cultures all over the world. In Spring from the Christian Lent to the Islamic Ramadan, or in India with the ancient Panchakarma (cleansing and balancing the Doshas within the body through a series of different therapies). Pancha means 5 and Karma means action(s). Traditionally this is a programme usually ranging from 7, 14 or 21 days to 1 month (most common), to eliminate and balance the doshas (or 5 elements and their actions) in the body e.g. Vata dosha and stress.

Just as you Spring clean your house on the outside, it's important to also cleanse the body and mind. I believe cleansing should be carried out 1-2 times annually, in the transition seasons of Spring and Autumn for generally cleansing, or adapted cleanses for specific pathogens (such as candida and parasites). You can find out more in upcoming cleanses.

Spring and Autumn in particular are times when illnesses can manifest in the body? According to the 5000-year-old ancient healing science of Ayurveda optimal health is achieved when we live in balance with the cycles of nature. In Winter toxins, illnesses and other imbalances in your body tend to lie dormant, just as microbial activity in nature and the environment usually stops or slows down at freezing or cold temperatures. When the atmosphere gets warmer, the Sun comes out and is joined by rain showers, this is when toxins can be released and can cause inflammation, allergies, and illnesses to manifest in your body.

In Summer, when the heat is the strongest, is a time to implement a Pitta or heat pacifying lifestyle and healthy eating regime. This is when fruits and fresh vegetables like salads and green leaves are in season, to calm the fire of the Sun.

In Autumn, once again, toxins tend to come out that have accumulated over Summer. With the lack of rain in the hot months, toxins have been accumulating in the atmosphere and the ground, and with the showery rains of Autumn, they are released. The Macro Micro principal of Ayurveda or the "as above so below" principle explains that whatever happens in the nature and on a macro level also happens within the body on a micro level. Just as fungus and mushrooms come out in Autumn in order to help digest and breakdown the falling leaves and foliage of the trees for the next year, unwanted microorganisms can also proliferate within the human body, along with other imbalances.

How do you cleanse?

The basics of Ayurveda are the same as what Hippocrates later stated:

"Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food."

The first approach of Ayurveda is to balance the diet and lifestyle of a person based on their Dosha (Prakruti) or unique body-mind type and imbalance (Vikruti).

Therefore, simply by eliminating inflammatory foods, and adding a huge range of healthy, fresh and wholesome foods adapted to your Dosha, you can cleanse your system. This is coupled with some simple home remedies and natural supplements to help cleanse the blood, liver, digestive tract, gut and microbiome. Then the aim of the cleanse is to repopulate your gut and strengthen your immunity all in one programme.

What's included in the cleanse?

You can decide if you want to carry out this cleanse for 6 weeks or 4 weeks:

  • An assessment to know your Dosha and understand your imbalance
  • Nutritional guidance for the 6 week cleanse
  • 7 day meal plan
  • Shopping list
  • Over 100 recipes
  • Lessons on why it is important to cleanse the body and mind
  • Heavy-metal detoxing and alkalising cleansing method
  • Blood and liver cleansing method
  • Microbiome cleansing method
  • Gut repopulating method
  • Immune boosting method
  • Audio, visual and PDF educational guides
  • Gaia Ayurveda group support from others taking part in the cleanse
Further cleansing

Not only is Panchakarma a yearly cleanse advocated in Ayurveda and India since the ancient times, but so are specific regimes for individuals and couples aimed towards pre-conception and fertility, hormonal balancing and menstrual tips.

Although the cleanse was difficult at first, I noticed the effects almost immediately. My energy levels came back, I felt more positive in my body, and my digestion significantly improved. Knowing about my dosha and my imbalance allowed me to also adapt my lifestyle to one that best suits me!

I was suffering from chronic stress at work and in my life, but learning about my dosha and my imbalance helped me bring myself back into balance. Knowing my dosha and what types of food are most suited for me, and learning about simple home remedies that I can use and implement when I feel stressed, has seriously changed my life. I feel now that I can take my healing into my own hands. Doing an Ayurvedic cleanse and detoxing helped me get rid of what I think must have been years of toxins that have been building up in my body.

Before the consultation I had a stomach pain after eating almost everyday. I noticed a lightness in my digestion during the detox but above all my stomach ache disappeared and has not returned still today!

Although it was hard to change certain habits and try different foods, I really noticed the result after a month of detox. Some of the unexpected benefits that I got from the cleanse I would say would be a personal satisfaction to have followed the healthy eating plan and to be able to see how quickly I could achieve results just by simple changes in my diet and by taking herbal supplements. Fern was very attentive during the consultation and entire detox stage, and I learnt a lot about Ayurvedic nutrition. She really knows what she’s doing.

At first, I found it a bit difficult to follow the detox plan, because at the beginning it is not always very easy to cut out sweets and sugary foods. But it was definitely worth "paying the price" for a short period of time and in any case I felt that after two weeks my body and mind got used to it. What surprised me the most was really the efficiency of the healthy eating plan and cleanse, and to see that I didn't need to add food to improve my health but on the contrary I had to remove certain things for a few weeks. Thank you a thousand times over for this magical consultation that you gave me. I often speak about the benefits of Ayurveda with people I meet. I would recommend working with Fern and I always share her contact with great pleasure.

I loved the consultation with Fern. She provided me with a wonderfully extensive diagnosis and therapeutic routine to follow. I was fairly new to Ayurveda. I love the holistic nature of it and the use of herbs and spices and my environment, in accordance with the circadian rhythm such as abstaining from food after sunset and fasting for 12 hours, prioritising sleep, eating quietly and slowly, eating fresh prepared food, etc.. I love how Ayurveda connects me to the natural world around me.

Because of Fern's knowledge of Ayurveda I was very curious to see how she would interpret my symptoms according to my dosha. Hearing her wealth of knowledge was fascinating. It's such a wonderful way to learn about your own body and in such a refreshing and holistic way so dramatically different from seeing a western medicine GP ! I found it genuinely empowering and I'd recommend it to anyone.
